Piano is the instrument most people mean when they say they wish they had kept playing. It is also the one it is never really too late to start. Our piano instruction is private and paced to the individual — a seven year old learning where middle C lives and a fifty year old working through a piece they have wanted to play for decades need very different lessons, and they get them.
Beginners start with hand position, reading both clefs, and the coordination of playing two independent lines at once. From there the path depends on the student: classical repertoire, chord-based playing for someone who wants to accompany themselves, contest and audition preparation, or simply a steady supply of pieces worth learning.
Because the whole harmonic structure of music is laid out visually on a keyboard, piano is the fastest way into music theory. Students who play piano alongside a second instrument tend to read faster and understand what they are playing rather than only executing it. We teach theory alongside lessons for students who want that, and it pairs especially well with contest preparation.
Our instruction is performance-based. That does not mean pressure — it means students are prepared to actually play for someone, whether that is a judge, a family room, or an accompaniment part for another musician. Playing for people is a separate skill from playing well, and it is one worth practicing deliberately.
Lessons run in person at our Cross Timbers Road studio in Flower Mound, or online over Zoom. Scheduling is flexible, there is never an enrollment fee, and the first trial lesson is free. Families come to us from Flower Mound, Lewisville, Bartonville, Lantana, Argyle, Highland Village, Coppell and Denton.
